Setting Password Protection

 

Sometimes you may want to protect your stickums from other users or from accidental damage. In this case, you can password protect your stickums. PLEASE NOTE: In the current version of Stickums saved passwords are not encrypted! This means that if a user knows what what they are doing and what to look for, they can find out your password.

How To Access the Password Settings Window

On the Desktop

There are two ways to access the Password Settings window for a desktop stickum:

1. If the toolbar is on, click the "lock" icon (Figure 1);
2. Click on the Stickums program icon in the Titlebar and select Properties -> Password (Figure 2).

On the NoteStack

There are two ways to access the Password Settings window for a NoteStack stickum:

1. Click the "lock" icon on the toolbar (Figure 3);
2. Click on the Stickums program icon in the Titlebar of the stickum and select Properties -> Password (Figure 4).

Descriptions of Password Settings Choices

Password enabled If this box is checked, the stickum will be password enabled. When this is the case the Password icon on the toolbar will be depressed, and the lock will be down (Figures 5 and 6). You will be prompted for a password when password enabling a stickum.
Open/Close If this box is checked, the stickum will require password authentication to open it (to reveal the text) or to close (delete) it. Note that the stickum will show that it is locked down (Figure 7). In order to open it, you will need to click on the text window and enter your password. Also, if you want to lock the stickum after opening it, click on the Stickums program icon in the Titlebar and select Properties -> Locked (Figure 8).
Read-only If this box is checked, the stickum will require password authentication to edit its text window or properties. However, you will be able to read the text in the text window.
Change Password Allows you to change your password.
