 What is Genie Reader Program

Genie Reader - Reads your E-mail anytime any day using Outlook Express as mail client.  Turn on your speaker or plugged on your headphones and listen to your message!  Genie Reader works on Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows ME.

Interactive E-mail assistant, some features like HTML disabled, link enable to lessen your time in visiting links in your mail instead of copying and pasting links to your web browser.  Also you can Reply, Compose and Delete  E -mails just like Outlook Express 5.   More options in reading messages like Bypass messy characters like "~ * = < > |".  Hotkey features like Ctrl + R to read selected messages, Ctrl + S to Stop Genie from reading messages and more...

 How to Setup Genie Reader Program:

After downloading those three components from one of the Microsoft site, of course you have to install them.  Restart your computer if prompted.  After downloading the main program, you need to extract to a folder (example C:\Windows\Desktop\ Genie Reader Setup) then double click Setup.exe.  Follow instructions on a blue screen.

 To setup an Outlook Express 5 account:

Start Outlook Express 5, on the  Identity Login window,  Click Manage Identities click New. Type your name and check the "Ask me for a password when I start" check box if you want to have a password security.  Click OK, when prompted select Yes.  With the Internet Connection Wizard window, select the "Create a new Internet mail account" option, click Next. Enter your display name (example John Doe,  Juan de la Cruz etc). click Next.  Select the "I have already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use" option, then enter your email address (example johndoe@digitelone.com), click Next. In "My incoming mail server is a POP3 server" on the 2 boxes below type your mail server that you use. If you are using Digitelone as an email server, type mail.digitelone.com, click Next. (for more information visit www.digitelone.com or mail.digitelone.com to setup a free Digitelone account)   In the account name don't erase the name given, enter your login password.  Checking Emails with Genie Reader E-Mail Checker:

Genie can automatically check your email box. (see the options window) However you can manually check your mail box by clicking Check E-Mail in Genie's popup menu.  If prompted to select an identity then select your identity.  Never click the cancel button that may cause to crash this program!  Wait for Outlook Express 5 to download your messages after all select a message then click Read button.

Note: Make sure that Outlook Express 5 is your default mail client. To make it as your default mail client, close any existing mail client (example Eudora, Yahoo, etc.) then open Outlook Express 5 and you will be prompted to make it as a default.

 Genie Speak Window:

Check the Use Text translator checkbox if you want Genie to translate or bypass messy characters like ~`<> etc just like in reading E-mail messages.  You can also save the speak text by clicking the right part of the close button and select Close and Save or Save  (C:\Program Files\Genie Reader\Sayit.txt) to save.  When you open again the Speak Window, genie will automatically display the Sayit.txt file.

 Genie Reader Options Window:

Convert Message to translate or bypass messy characters.

UPPERcase to Propercase to convert messages In all uppercase just like this "GOT YOU'RE MAIL" - Genie will pronounce this as G.O.T Y.O.U'R.E  M.A.I.L so check this option to convert to "Got You're Mail".

Read msg. w/ Balloon - Check if you want that the word balloon will be display, else uncheck it.

Starts Genie Automatically - Check to auto start Genie Reader upon you activate your computer.

I will check my mail box with myself manually -  Select this if you are running in lower system.

Auto check E-Mails every (Interval) - Select this if you want genie to check automatically (5 to 99 minutes interval)

Check mailbox every time I start this program - check mail upon start only.

 Genie Reader E-mail Window:

You can view message by double clicking the selected item. Or Press  CTRL + V key.

Shift + Z to toggle email window size

CTRL + R to let Genie read your messages.  CTRL + S to Stop.

If auto email checker is running and the E-Mail window is open, auto checker will fail so close the window.

You can click a link in the message window to go directly to the site.

To display the menu, right click inside the email window.

 Frequently Ask Questions:

Q: After I installed Genie, it won't run!  What's wrong?

A: Make sure that you have downloaded and install all the 4 components described in Prerequisites

Q: When I check my E-mails, my system prompts me to connect to the Internet, but I choose no, Genie Stops responding why?

A: Because of MAPI action!  Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to terminate Genie Reader.  Next time try to select Yes and then cancel the dialup connection if you intended.

Q: Why when I cancelled the identity login window genie generates an error message then crash.

A: Currently working on this handy error.  Next time don't cancel the identity login.

Q: When I check email, Genie says "I'm sorry (your name) I think we don't have an internet connections yet" but I'm connected to the internet. What's wrong?

A: Maybe you are using LAN internet connection.  Right click Genie, select Settings. . . then click My Settings.  On the Genie Options Window select Connection tab, select "Using LAN Internet connection" then click OK to save the changes.

Q: I want to Setup Genie Options regarding my emails.  Why some of the controls are disabled (Email Setup)?

A: Because the mail window is not yet open. Try to check emails in order to open Genie E-Mails window, to enable the controls.

Q: Why I can't reply or delete a message while Genie is reading?

A: Because Genie is busy!  Click Stop button or wait until Genie is done then try again!

Q: My System is too low.  I want to start Genie Reader with my self.  How?

A: You can disable auto start either by: (1) At the Genie Reader Options window select Miscellaneous tab uncheck "Starts Automatically", then click OK to save the changes.  (2) Type Msconfig with d' run window then hit Enter,  select "Startup" tab.  Uncheck GENIE.exe, click OK.  Restart your computer if prompted.  (3) Use the Registry Editor (regedit) then under the Run folder, delete Genie.exe.

Q: When I start Genie Reader, Genie will says "Good Morning (your name), how are you!" and currently, its not morning or what else.  Is this an error?

A: No! It's not an error.  Make sure that the time and date of your system is properly set!

Q: Genie is displaying the word balloon, but I can't hear the spoken word!

A: Make sure that your soundcard driver is up to date, or close any program using soundcard like MP3 players Media Players etc.  If the volume icon is visible in the system tray, open it and adjust some settings.

Q: When I register Genie, Genie won't accept the registration code that I've received! Why?

A: Make sure that you didn't share your registration code to others else your registration code will be rejected.  Another, observe capitalization in entering your registration code.  (Important: Keep your registration code for feature reference.)

 Tips and Tricks:

* To display popup menu without using mouse in e-mail window press Shift + F10 (make sure that the message list is not empty.) 

* To toggle the size of e-mail window press Shift + Z.

* If  you enabled auto check with intervals make sure to close E-mail window so that Genie can update your messages.

* You can manually check your mailbox by clicking Check E-Mail in the popup menu.

* You can Check E-mails by holding down CTRL and Click Genie. ALT and Click to display this help document.

* Please don't try to cancel the Identity Window select an Identity then proceed.

* If you were prompted to connect to the internet, select Yes.

* Make sure that Outlook Express 5 is your default mail client.

Well I think that's very familiar with everybody. . .  I'm Benjie M. Fusilero.  I live in the farm area with a peaceful surroundings, -  about 3 kms., east of San Fernando City.  My hobbies...
