This Enterprise JavaBeans assists in the development of server-side applications incorporating the Binomial, Poisson, Normal, Lognormal and Pareto probability distributions. The probability function, density function, mean, variance, and cumulative distribution functions are implemented where appropriate for each distribution and/or their approximations.

New Features: Self-Deploy, EAR Files

By clicking the self-install package the EJB component will be automatically deployed onto a supported local EJB application server. We also include multiple EAR files designed for each of the most widely used application servers (see details).

The Standard Probability Distributions EJB component implements the following features:

• Discrete Random Variables
  • The binomial distribution - this is the probability of an experiment to deliver x `successes' out of n trials
  • The Poisson distribution - this is an exponential dependant distribution, especially used in case of rare events
• Continuos Random Variables
  • The normal distribution - the bell-shaped symmetrical curve, whose probability is calculated using numerical integration methods
  • The Log Normal distribution - the Lognormal distribution is useful for modeling investment returns and the distribution of insurance claim sizes
  • The Pareto Distribution - The Pareto distribution is useful for modeling the distribution of insurance claims when we wish to be cautious in assessing the probability of large claims
• Numerical Methods
  • Extended Trapezoidal Rule - this method is implemented in order to evaluate the non-analytic probability density functions of the Normal and Lognormal distributions

• Synthetic JDBC - we use a JSP component to perform EJB calculations on SQL database columns from a remote DBMS. We apply an EJB function to certain rows from the database and list the output in HTML format. This is a powerful feature since it allows you to perform calculations in a JDBC manner without having to hardcode the EJB-to-JDBC transaction yourself as it is all done by the JSP within the Application Server
• Rational Rose Models - to assist designers of large enterprise applications we include Rational Models of the home and remote interface
