Introduction to Feng shui
What is Feng shui :
Feng Shui (pronounced "foong shway") is a Chinese philosophy about the relationship between humans and their environment. It is about how everything is connected and how this affects your well-being.
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art that expounds the theory that ch'i, the cosmic energy which is the primary force of nature, is circulated in every nook and corner of the universe bringing it to life, enabling rivers to flow, plants to grow and crops to flourish. It is the art of detecting ch'i in a room, building, environment or the human body and harnessing that energy to obtain the most positive results for peace, harmony and prosperity.
Feng shui literary means wind and water and is the result of deep and detailed study of relationship between human and nature.
Three kinds of luck : The Chinese believe that there are three kinds of luck. Namely, they are,
1. ren choy
2. t'ien choy
3. ti choy
ren choy is the luck you make for yourself; t'ien choy is the gifts bestowed upon you by heaven at the time of birth; ti choy is the benefits that come from your environment.
Surely, you cannot change or influence t'ien choy but you can influence ti choy.
Yin and Yang : Yin and Yang are two major forces that govern the universe. Feng Shui (Wind and Water) is the principle of arranging your environment, home and office so that you are at peace and harmony with yourself and the universe. This will enable you to balance and capitalise on the Chi, which is the universal life energy force that surrounds all of us. This way, you can obtain good health, confidence, happiness, and the vitality and drive to achieve success in life.
Feng Shui is a unique, centuries-old Chinese art that reveals scientific achievement based on an analytical and meticulous system of observation and experimentation of life's energy force. The science of Feng Shui is not related to any religion and is applicable to everyone.
Feng Shui revolves around the concept of Yin and Yang, that nothing exists in separation from the rest of the universe. At a simple level, Yin and Yang can mean negative and positive, female and male, night and day, sour and sweet, low and high, cold and hot, water and fire.
In a Yin there is always a Yang,
and in a Yang,
there is always a Yin

The above figure is a representation of Yin-Yang cocept.
The five elements :
The concept of the five elements in Feng Shui revolves around the principle that all beings in the universe are influenced by the interaction/cycle of the five elements, namely Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
The first cycle, the cycle of balance -- the productive cycle indicates that each element produces or generates the succeeding elements.
The Fire element produces Earth, which in turn is the source of Metal. Metal when liquefied produces Water, which is the source of energy for Wood that gives life to Fire.
The second cycle, the cycle of imbalance -- the destructive cycle indicates that each element dominates or destroys the succeeding elements.
Fire destroys/melts Metal and Metal damages Wood. Wood in turn draws its essence and destroys Earth. Earth absorbs and blocks Water, which in turn destroys Fire.
