If you are using Webgenz for the first time, please refer to the Getting Started section for detailed information on setting up your first Project.

When working with Webgenz, you need to be familiar with the following concepts:

  • Projects - A Project is typically used to identify a web site or portion of a web site that is being maintained by Webgenz.

  • Folders - Folders are subdivisions of Projects. A Project can be logically divided into as many Folders as necessary. A Webgenz Folder has no direct relationship to a Windows Folder. However, a Webgenz user may decide to structure their Webgenz Folders to map directly to Windows Folders.

  • Documents - Documents are HTML files which are generated by Webgenz. They are not edited directly, but are "generated" from Templates and Content Files. Documents are organized into Folders.

  • Content File - Content files are where Macros are defined. Content files are organized into a hierarchy which allows Macro Values to be shared (or inherited) across a group of files that have some characteristic in common. Read more

  • Templates - A Template defines the basic layout for Document. Templates contain Macro Tags that are replaced by Macro Values when Webgenz generates a web site. Read more

  • Project Definition File - The Project Definition File is a text file that contains all of the information related to a specific project, including: Folder definitions, Document definitions, and the relationships between Folders, Documents, Templates, and Content files. Read more

  • Macro Tags - Macro Tags are used in Template files to identify the the variable pieces of information that will be replaced by Macro Values from Content files.

  • Macro Values - Macro Values replace Macro Tags in Template files when a Project is "generated". Macros Tags can be nested.

  • Macro Parameters - Macro Tags may include parameters. This feature allows specific elements in a Macro Value to be replaced by parameters referenced in a Macro Tag.
