Publishing as a Stand Alone Presentation

If you publish your presentation as a "Stand Alone Presentation", it can be played on any Windows computer. This makes it easy to share your presentation with other Windows Users. There are 3 different ways that the Stand Alone Presentation can be published:

1) Create single EXE file.

This option is the best way to distribute your presentation if it is going to be Emailed, downloaded or sent as a file. A single EXE file is created. When someone runs this EXE, your presentation will be extracted onto their system and automatically start playing exactly the same way as how you designed it. Presentation Publisher DOES NOT have to be installed on their system for them to play your published presentation.

The EXE file created will be placed into xxxxxx\Published Presentations\EXE and ZIP Presentation (Where xxxxxx is the name of the folder that Presentation Publisher program was installed into).

2) Create ZIP file.

This is the same as the EXE above, except that a standard ZIP file is created instead of a self extracting EXE file. To run this type of presentation, your user would need to unzip the contents of this file onto their hard drive using the "USE FOLDERNAMES" option in their UNZIP utility. Then run the PLAYSHOW.EXE file that is extracted.

The ZIP file created will be placed into xxxxxx\Published Presentations\EXE and ZIP Presentation (Where xxxxxx is the name of the folder that Presentation Publisher program was installed into).

3) Create presentation for CD.

If you want to put your published presentation onto a CD, then you should choose this option. All the files needed to play your presentation will be compiled into a folder on your hard drive. This folder will have the name xxxxxx\Published Presentations\CD Presentation (Where xxxxxx is the name of the folder that Presentation Publisher program was installed into). To copy this published presentation onto your CD, you must do the following:

1) Copy just the files in the "xxxxxx\Published Presentations\CD Presentation" folder into the ROOT directory of your CD-ROM.
2) Copy ALL the sub folders of "xxxxxx\Published Presentations\CD Presentation" and their file contents to the CD-ROM

If any of your Presentations contain hotlinks to other presentations (one presentation calls another one) then you must publish all these presentations at the same time. Each presentation that is published will have a folder created for it on the CD-ROM and all it's data files (images, sounds etc) will be placed in it.

If you select the option which says "Make CD Presentation Autorun from CD" then a special file named "autorun.inf" will be created. This file when placed in the root directory of the CD will cause the Presentation to automatically start playing when the user places the CD into their CD-ROM drive.

Publishing Options

* Include VB6.0 Runtime DLL's

Selecting this option causes the Visual Basic runtime DLL's to be included with the presentation. These controls must be on the users computer in order to run the presentation. You should leave this option selected unless you know that your users already have these controls on their computer (Like if they have previously played a presentation that included the DLL's). If you know that your users already have these DLL's on their system, then you can choose not to include the DLL's with the presentation.

Including the VB6.0 Runtime DLL's will add about 1.5 meg to the published presentation.
