Health-Minder Installation Notes:

System Requirements:
 Computer type: 486 or later
 Windows operating system 95, 98, ME, XP, 2000, or NT.
 8 megabytes of RAM or more.
 12 megabytes of hard drive space.

Health-Minder is a 16-bit application which can be run under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows NT. The file for installation is hm32.exe. Run hm32.exe to install Health-Minder. Then run hminder.exe to start the program.

(1) During installation you will be asked:
where on your computer to install Health-Minder. By default, Health-Minder will be installed on the path
            "C:\hminder"
      If this is NOT where you want Health-Minder to reside on your computer, use the above format to enter the path where you do want it installed. If you have previously installed Health-Minder, the path shown will be the path where it currently resides on your computer. The installation program will never overwrite a previously installed Health-Minder database, because doing so would erase all the information you have entered there.

(2) Backing up your data
      The database is found as a subdirectory called "base" of the hminder directory. So, by default, if Health-Minder resides on the path "C:\hminder", the database files are located in: "C:\hminder\base". These files should be copied to diskettes or a CD-RW or tape backup to prevent data loss. Your password will also be stored in these files when you register Health-Minder (see #4 below on how to register).

(3) Resolution of your monitor's display.
The first time you install Health-Minder, the program will modify your win.ini file to add a section like this:
           [ASPECT]
           InchesHigh = 8.5
           InchesWide = 10.25

The inches high and wide will vary with resolution. If you find that the windows in Health-Minder are too large or two small for your display, you may wish to change these lines in the win.ini file. First, find what your display's resolution is.

If you are using Windows95,98 or WindowsNT, choose Settings, go to the Control Panel and look at Display Settings. In either case, you will see the current values of your display's resolution. For example, if it shows you:
          Display: 640x480x256
the resolution is 640x480 (the 256 refers to the number of colors
your display can show). Then, choose the Health-Minder option
that most closely matches your display's resolution to modify your
"win.ini" file.

      The values for different resolutions are as follows:
      	RESOLUTION	InchesHigh	InchesWide
	640x480		8.5		10.25
	800x600		10.0		12.5
	1024x768	12.4		15.5
	1152x864	14.4		18.0
	1280x1024	16.0		20.0

The "win.ini" file is found in your windows directory, usually C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT. If the Health-Minders are too large, you will need to DECREASE the inches high and/or wide. If, on the other hand, the windows in Health-Minder are too small, and that the pushbuttons, text, and other items in the windows are crowded and overlapping, edit the win.ini file and INCREASE the inches high and wide in the ASPECT section.

If you change the resolution of your display, you will need to change
these two values in the win.ini file. Once your "win.ini" file has the InchesHigh and InchesWide lines, the Health-Minder installation program will not modify or overwrite them if you re-install Health-Minder. If you edit and change your "win.ini" file, be sure to restart WINDOWS before you use Health-Minder to have these changes take effect.

(4) To register the software
Health-Minder can be used without registration for 60 days, and then it will expire. To continue using Health-Minder, press the REGISTER NOW button on the start up screen and follow the instructions, or visit our website at http://www.health-minder.com where you will find out how to register online. You will need to e-mail the expiration date as shown on the start up screen (the screen with the REGISTER NOW button). Send this date to support@health-minder.com and we will send you the password. Then, start Health-Minder and this time press the ENTER PASSWORD button on the start up screen. Your password will be stored in the Health-Minder database, so be sure to backup these files: c:\hminder\base\objects.dat and c:\hminder\base\objects.idx (presuming you have installed the program in c:\hminder).

(5) For support, send e-mail to: support@Health-Minder.com. Please visit our web site at http://www.health-minder.com for news of releases, FAQ pages, and to report suggestions or bugs. There you will also find the Health-Minder Users' Manual in either Word97 or HTML format. While the program contains ample HELP information on how to use each screen, the manual shows how to use Health-Minder features together to achieve family health goals such as improving nutrition or managing medical expenses.
